I've always love writing, so I was looking forward to taking this class, but I gained so much
more from it than I had expected. I was thrilled to see that the majority of our discussion topics were about political
and societal issues. I have always been interested in politics, and these exercises gave me the opportunity to learn
more about certain issues and put my thoughts on them into words. I enjoyed reading the opinions of other students,
and I was able to see different points of view.
The peer feedback exercises were extremely beneficial as well. By reading others' writing,
I was able to see flaws in my own writing. My peers also provided excellent feedback to me, and I was able to use
their suggestions to improve my essays before submitting the final drafts.
By far, the most difficult and challenging essay for me to write was the Proposal Argument
essay. I have never worked with APA format before, so it was challenging to format my essay in this manner. Another
part of this essay that was difficult for me was narrowing my topic to a local issue and then developing a solution.
I had a lot of ideas for topics; however, I realized that they were all to broad and difficult to tackle. In the
end, this is also the assignment that I am the most grateful for. It helped me hone my critical thinking skills
when I was able to narrow down a topic, and working with the APA format gave me another way to write in the future.
I can use this format for proposals and research that I do for work, for example.
I strongly recommend this class and Ms. Marits to anyone attending TCC! This class was
both fun and educational - an ideal learning experience.
